Early this morning, San Bernardino Police Officer Bryce Hanes, 40, died when his cruiser was struck by an alleged drunk driver. Around 2:30, Officer Hanes was just leaving the West Valley Detention Center, where he had delivered an arrestee, when a car ran through a red light and struck his vehicle.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that the impact of the accident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., caused the police car to spin out of control and hit a power pole. Office Hanes died shortly thereafter at the Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center.
Bryce and his family were friends from many years ago and we are torn up to hear of this terrible event. Our thoughts and our prayers are for his wife and children, as well as all his extended family, today and always. May God bless and be with you now and forever.
Alcohol abuse carries with it so much pain for the abusers and their families. Combining any alcohol with driving extends that pain beyond one’s family to the families of so many who are left to deal with the loss of a loved one killed by the drunk driver.
If you must drink – DO NOT DRIVE!
