Maxine the Progressive Wants Revenge

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., listens to comments by House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Md., as she and fellow Democrats criticize the efforts of Republicans to muscle legislation through the House authorizing an election-year lawsuit against President Barack Obama that accuses him of exceeding his powers in enforcing his health care law, Wednesday, July 30, 2014, during a news conference on Capitol in Washington. Democrats have branded the effort a political charade aimed at stirring up Republican voters for the fall congressional elections. They say it's also an effort by top Republicans to mollify conservatives who want Obama to be impeached — something House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Tuesday he has no plans to do. Who will win overall in the midterm Congressional elections on November 6? The Democrats? The Republicans?

What do you think? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Nate Silver and FiveThirtyEight.com forecast an 85% chance that the Democrats will win the House.

A vote for a Democrat is a vote for Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters to run Congress.

Nancy Pelosi wants to be Speaker again while Maxine Waters also has grand plans.

You can watch Waters’ speech at a Black Women Network breakfast in Los Angeles below, but, first, here are a few highlights.

Waters was very specific about her role in Congress should the Democrats take control. She also made what appears to be an impossible campaign promise:

“First of all, if we take back the House, most of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus will be chairs of the committees of the Congress of the United States of America.”

In the House, there are 20 permanent committees while there appear to be 48 members of the Congressional Black Caucus. It seems her math is a bit fuzzy. Perhaps it has been so long since she was in school, she has forgotten basic logic and arithmetic!

Waters’ next comments were less about governing than they were about what she might consider retribution and revenge against the financial industry:

“I will be the first African American, the first woman, to chair the powerful Financial Services Committee. That’s all of Wall Street, that’s all the insurance companies, that’s all the banks.”

“I have not forgotten you foreclosed on our houses. I have not forgotten that you undermined our community. I have not forgotten that you sold us those exotic products, had us sign on the line for junk and for mess that we could not afford. And in doing that I have people who are homeless who have never gotten back into a home. What am I gonna do to you? What I am gonna do to you is fair. I am gonna do to you what you did to us.”

Waters ended her speech with a call for the election of progressives nationwide:

“Let’s send a message, not only in the State of California, that we want progressive legislators who are concerned about our blight, who are going to work with us, who are going to look at the opportunities to deal with investment in our potential. I want you to vote so that the message is not only clear but it is a lasting message.”

A vote for Democrats is a vote for Maxine Waters, regardless what state you live in.

Keep Maxine out of House leadership. It is not too late to spread the word!
